THETA THURSDAYS
Theta Thursday... Man, you gotta love that alliteration!

As Chief Marketing Officer of the Zeta Upsilon chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta, I made Theta Thursdays the cornerstone of my PR campaign. Theta Thursdays took place on one, specially-selected Thursday of every month. I organized a monthly Theta Thursday booth, stationed in the Student Union, where we would be able to interact with students on our campus. Every month, we would be selling some kind of yummy food to the general student body, donating the proceeds to our local philanthropy.
However, there was a special catch...

As an added bonus, any student wearing Kappa Alpha Theta merchandise would receive a free goodie from our booth as a thank-you for their support!

"So, what was the impact of this campaign?" you ask? Well, it served multiple purposes...

Firstly, the name "Theta Thursday" served as a way for us to tie that particular day of the week to our organization. I wanted people to wake up on Thursdays and know that Theta had something special for them that day. I wanted there to be an excitement surrounding the day, making it a widely-known fact that this was our day. Our day to shine, our day to stand out, our day to help the student body through whatever was going on that week - from the stress of cramming for exams to the struggle of dealing with personal troubles.

Secondly, Theta Thursdays increased the promotion of Kappa Alpha Theta on campus. By offering the incentive of free items to those who rocked our merchandise on Theta Thursdays, we were able to increase the sales of our PR shirts, which lead to a bigger overall presence on campus. We promoted the event on Facebook and Instagram, and we reminded students of the booth when it was time to sell our bi-annual PR shirts as a way to advertise the merchandise.

It amazed me to see how people were reacting to Theta Thursdays. We all know that college students need to save money wherever they can, but it was great to see how happy they were to receive a free item every month at our booth! Even those who did not own our merchandise were happy to buy the goodies from our booth as a pick-me-up during the week. It soon became an event that not only our members, but other students, looked forward to every month, and I believe it truly improved our campus relations in a positive way. This chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta still continues the tradition today.
Thirdly, it was a great way to raise some cash-money for our philanthropy, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA). When we started out, the food items were only $1 for those not wearing our merchandise, but as we began partnering with bigger companies, we had to increase the price to account for the shear number of people who came to our booth. Some of the best turn-outs occurred on the Thursdays when we partnered with Steel City Pops, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Tiff's Treats and Sprinkles - to the point that we sold out and had to turn people away. Fortunately, this just made them more motivated to get to our booth sooner the next month.
By the end of my term as CMO, we raised over $700 for CASA through Theta Thursdays.

I love that I was able to combine this marketing campaign with helping a great philanthropy like CASA. It truly tied together my professional goals with my desire to make a difference and help others. I am eternally grateful for having this amazing opportunity.
